The home theatre is possibly the most expensive room in your home and the one most likely to experience significant damage through humidity and corrosion. Usually these rooms have the least amount of ventilation and sunlight.
And it isn’t only electrical equipment that suffers. Leather lounge suites are usually the item you will notice mould growing on, behind furniture and on the backs of blinds and curtains.
Many home theatres will be air-conditioned which will take care of the temperature and, to a certain extent, dehumidification. However, this is a much more expensive method of dehumidifying and if there is moisture in this room, then your air-conditioner will be working flat out in an endeavour to remove it. In some cases heating (especially gas) and cooling systems can actually increase moisture levels and exacerbate moisture problems.
The room below has many areas where moisture can cause problems:
- Television – corrosion
- Ceiling and wall lights – corrosion
- Speaker systems – corrosion
- Projector – corrosion
- Leather lounge suite – mould
- Carpet – mould and odour
- Cushions and curtains – mould and odour
- CDs and DVDs – condensation
The recommended humidity level for protecting all home items is 45%-60% r.h. The surest way to achieve this is by using a dehumidifier whose sole purpose is to remove moisture from the air and maintain a constant humidity level.
Moisture Cure recommends our FRAL 24 for this purpose. It is quiet, powerful and effective and …. it will only come on when it needs to.
